Tata Motors to Supply 100 Magna EV Intercity Coaches to GEMS

Tata Motors has taken another bold step towards green mobility by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Green Energy Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd (GEMS). The agreement outlines the supply of 100 state-of-the-art Magna EV intercity coaches, marking a major push for sustainable long-distance travel in India.

The MoU was officially signed during the Passenger Vehicle Expo 2.0 in Chennai, where Tata Motors also showcased its latest innovations including the Magna EV and LPO 1822 — vehicles built for efficiency, comfort, and lower total cost of ownership.


GEMS: UBS’s Electric Mobility Arm

Green Energy Mobility Solutions is the electric vehicle division of Universal Bus Services (UBS), a well-established intercity travel brand in South India. Known for premium travel experiences and reliability, UBS is now steering towards a greener future by investing in electric coaches and the supporting charging infrastructure.

This new EV fleet is poised to transform the intercity landscape with zero emissions and cost-effective operations.


Government of Tamil Nadu Supports the Move

The MoU signing ceremony was graced by Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa, the Hon’ble Minister for Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu. Speaking at the event, he stated:

“Tamil Nadu continues to lead in clean mobility innovation. Tata Motors’ partnership with UBS supports our vision of a greener, safer, and sustainable transportation system for the people of Tamil Nadu.”

The event was also attended by key government officials and members of the All Omni Bus Owners Association (AOBOA).

The Tata Magna EV coach is a next-gen, fully electric intercity bus with a driving range of up to 300 km on a single charge. Designed for long-distance routes, it features:

  • 44-seater configuration

  • Ergonomically designed seats

  • Electronic Braking System (EBS)

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

These features ensure both passenger safety and superior ride quality — making it an ideal choice for premium intercity operations.
