Apple to Debut M5-Powered MacBook Pro in 2025, With 15 New Macs in Pipeline

MacBook Pro

Apple is reportedly preparing to roll out a new generation of MacBook Pros equipped with the next-gen M5 chip before the end of this year. According to industry sources, this release is just the beginning, with as many as 15 new Mac models currently under development, highlighting Apple’s ambitious roadmap for its Mac lineup through 2026.

M5 Chip Set to Power a Broad Range of Macs

The Cupertino-based company is expected to unveil four versions of the M5 MacBook Pro — two in 14-inch sizes (internal codes: J714c, J714s) and two 16-inch variants (J716c, J716s). The 14-inch models are expected to run on the M5 Pro chip, while the 16-inch versions will be powered by the M5 Max, following Apple’s tradition of tiered performance options.

These new MacBook Pros will be the first devices to showcase the M5 chip’s capabilities. Other M5-powered Macs in the works reportedly include:

  • A Mac mini (identifier: J873s) with the M5 Pro chip

  • A redesigned iMac (J833ct) running on the base M5

  • Two configurations of the Mac Studio (J775c and J775d)

  • A long-awaited Mac Pro refresh (J704) expected by year-end

MacBook Air to Get M5 in 2026

While MacBook Pro users will get early access to the M5 family, MacBook Air fans will have to wait until 2026. That release is expected to come in both 13-inch and 15-inch screen sizes, with a design largely unchanged from the current generation.

A Low-End MacBook Pro with A18 Chip in the Works

In a surprising move, Apple is also reportedly developing a low-cost MacBook Pro powered by its A18 mobile chipset, typically used in iPhones. A model with the identifier J804 has been spotted in development, along with another mysterious device labeled J700, for which no further details are available yet.

Future MacBook Pro May Get M6 Upgrade in 2026

Looking ahead, Apple is planning to refresh its MacBook Pro lineup again next year, this time with the M6 Pro and M6 Max chipsets. As with the M5 generation, four configurations are expected across 14-inch and 16-inch variants.

Summary: Apple’s Mac Strategy Enters High Gear

From high-performance MacBook Pros and Studios to entry-level options with mobile chips, Apple appears to be widening the Mac ecosystem significantly. The company’s silicon innovation continues to push the boundaries of desktop and mobile computing, with the M5 and upcoming M6 chips setting the stage for a new era in performance and efficiency.
