Apple to pay $95m as compensation to lost “SIRI” Law suit

Apple agreed to pay $95 million in cash to settle a proposed class action lawsuit claiming that its voice-activated Siri assistant violated users’ privacy.- According to Reuters.

Experts advice to general Mobile phone users,

Be casreful of the apps which you are installing in mobile phones, Many apps while installing ask for different permissions. Unknowingly you might be sharing your data to third party apps which may or may not be following Priavcy guidelines!

So be careful while installing third party apps and go for only Trusted apps!

The case was filed by Person US California federal court, saying SIRI listened to his and his daughters conversations as well! and showed relevant advertisements!

Case background

SIRI feature is well know to people since long time! So far we are used to saying ” Hey SIRI” and giving command like play the Music or open Map and so on.

But do you know according to law suit many people complained that, SIRI is actively listening your conversation even if you did not ask to hear or command anything! And based on listened conversations the data was being used for showing third party advertisements and related products. Which is voilation of Privacy.

What you need to know...

  • The compensation may only paid to Apple users who have turned on SIRI feature on their Apple device.
  • Each claimant – US Based -could be paid up to $20 per Siri-enabled device they owned between 2014 and 2019.
  • So get the ” small” compensation amount above conditions are applicable, so if you are someone living in India, Don’t expect any compensation!

Similar case with Google’s voice assistant is also ongoing in same court, as per BBC news.
